Most surgeons use the “strip” method of transplanting hair, surgically removing a portion of the scalp from the back of the head and then creating follicular units from this portion. While this method is easier for surgeons to perform and generally less expensive for patients, it is a relatively invasive procedure that results in a visible linear scar at the back of the head. With FUE, however, hair follicles are removed individually from the donor area and placed in the thinning areas on the top of the head. As a result, there is less bleeding and discomfort, fewer complications, and more natural-looking results associated with FUE than with the “strip” method.
