Skin Treatments

Restore Youth and Vitality to Your Skin

The skin, believe it or not, is actually an organ, the largest of all human organs. Unfortunately, it is also the most vulnerable of human organs, as it is exposed to the elements, pollutants, and other sources of damage and wear. Lifestyle choices, pregnancy, weight loss and weight gain, and the natural effects of time can also cause the skin to lose its natural elasticity and smooth, even texture. Many people are resigned to the fact that wrinkling, discoloration, and other signs of age and damage are simply facts of life.

But you don’t have to.

The Dr. Goodnight Center for Everlasting Beauty is devoted to helping you look and feel your best, whether you are in your thirties or your nineties, through rejuvenative medicine, including a variety of world-class skin treatments. At our North Haledon, New Jersey plastic surgery practice, we offer BOTOX® Cosmetic, a selection of peels, laser skin resurfacing, and the revolutionary Pelleve Wrinkle Reduction System. These treatments can be performed individually or used to complement face lift surgery, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, or any of our other plastic surgery procedures.

So go ahead and take that step toward reclaiming your youthful, fresh, healthy skin. Contact the Dr. Goodnight Center for Everlasting Beauty today to learn more about the skin treatments available at the North Haledon practice of James Goodnight.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections

Wrinkles between the eyebrows (frown lines), around the eyes (crow’s feet), and across the forehead are actually caused by overactive muscles just below the skin. Through a very small needle, BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into these areas to relax the underlying muscles. This smoothes out the wrinkles they are causing, giving patients a more vibrant and youthful appearance. The effects typically last three to four months, and treatment can be repeated as necessary.

Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing with our advanced fractional CO2 laser produces outstanding results for patients with deep wrinkles and thick age spots. During the treatment, the outermost layers of the skin are removed with the laser. After treatment, patients generally wear a clear mask for a few days and then Vaseline on their faces for another week. The treated areas are often pink for several months, but this slight discoloration can be concealed with makeup. Hydroquinone and Retrinex are typically used for approximately a month prior to and six months after treatment in order to optimize results.

Laser treatment is usually focused on the areas around the mouth and beneath the lower eyelids, and BOTOX® injections are generally administered prior to treatment to ensure that the new collagen layer will not be wrinkled when it grows in.

For many patients, fat transfer is performed as an effective alternative to laser skin resurfacing. This fat can be used to plump up hollow areas and diminish the appearance of wrinkles and acne scars.

Glycolic Acid Peels

Glycolic acid peels are used to add moisture to the skin and reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles. Dr. Goodnight generally recommends monthly treatment sessions and that patients wear the Glyderm mask at home between sessions to optimize results. Glycolic acid peels are effective in washing away most of the dead cells on the skin’s outermost layer.

Jessner’s Peels

Jessner’s peels are typically used to remove superficial spots and control acne. As with glycolic acid peels, monthly sessions of increasing intensity are generally recommended. The Jessner’s peel is gentle, safe, and particularly effective when used in conjunction with home skin care products such as skin bleachers and topical glycolic acids. The peel is also often used to prepare the skin for a stronger peel, such as the TCA peel.

TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) Peels

TCA peels are among the strongest peels, and are often recommended to patients with facial spots or wrinkles that extend the full thickness of the skin’s upper layers and sometimes down into the skin’s underlying layers. These peels are generally combined with Jessner’s peels so that a weaker – and therefore safer – concentration of TCA can be used to achieve the desired results.

The TCA peel turns the skin red with an overlying layer of whiteness that can last for up to an hour. Over the next seven to ten days, the skin dries out and begins to peel off in scales. This reveals smoother, clearer skin, although patients must use skin care products recommended by Dr. Goodnight to prevent spots from being produced due to the inflammation induced by the peel. Unlike glycolic acid and Jessner’s peels, TCA peels need only to be performed once a year in order to maintain results.

Pelleve Skin Tightening

The Pelleve Wrinkle Reduction System precisely delivers high-frequency radio waves the underlying layers of skin, promoting collagen contraction without damaging the outermost layers of skin. This skin tightening treatment can be used to tighten skin not only on the face, but also on the neck, arms, hands, chest, inner thighs, abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and other areas of loose skin on the body. After two or three monthly treatments, many patients experience firmer, tighter skin that lasts for a year or longer. Best of all, the treatment entails virtually no pain or downtime and does not require anesthesia.
