Understanding How a Fat Transfer Works

The concept behind a fat transfer is simple yet transformative: you slim down by eliminating fat from unwanted areas and then use that fat to enhance other parts of your body.

Your fat transfer procedure is easily performed in the comfort of Dr. Goodnight’s Everlasting Beauty, but don’t let the ease fool you.

If you want exceptional results from a fat transfer, you need the combination of surgical expertise and artistic sensibility embodied by James Goodnight, MD. Read on to learn about the fat transfer procedure.

Popular uses for a fat transfer

You already know which body areas you want to slim down by removing the fat. So the next question is, how can we use your fat to enhance your appearance?

The three most popular areas that people want to improve with a fat transfer include their face, breasts, and buttocks.

Facial rejuvenation

During a facial lift, which we call a Dream Lift, we use your fat transfer to lift your cheeks or to fill sunken areas. We can also enhance your lips or temples.

A fat transfer also smooths away unwanted wrinkles, much like a dermal filler. The difference is that dermal fillers wear off while fat stays in place for the long run.

Breast enhancement

With a fat transfer, you can enlarge your breast size without needing an implant. You can also use a fat transfer to correct breasts that are different sizes.

Brazilian butt lift

Fat transfers built their reputation on the popular Brazilian butt lift. We precisely inject fat in the areas of your buttocks that you want to look fuller or curvier.

Why your fat makes a great filler

Many people think of fat as blobs of ugly, useless tissue. But your fat consists of active, living cells. In fact, your body fat is one of the best sources of stem cells capable of regenerating tissues.

Once your fat is transferred, it establishes a blood supply and continues to live. It’s also biocompatible with your body, so you don’t need to worry about potential side effects or rejection.

Of all the benefits of a fat transfer, one of the most important is that it creates natural-looking and feeling results.

How a fat transfer works

Fat transfers follow a three-step process. First, we remove excess fat from your problem areas. Then we process the tissues before injecting the fat back into your body. Here are more details about each step:

Fat harvesting

When harvesting your fat, we use a procedure called tumescent body liposuction. This type of liposuction is safe, virtually eliminates bleeding, and only requires a local anesthetic.

We inject a formula containing a local anesthetic and epinephrine into the targeted area of fat. Then we make a tiny incision, insert a small microcannula, and gently suction the unwanted fat.

Fat processing

We don’t simply take the fat out and reinject it back into your body. Before injecting the fat, we put it through a cleansing process that removes any residual anesthetic solution, cellular debris, and other unwanted components.

By the end of this process, we have pure, healthy, concentrated fat cells that we can confidently inject back into your body. We often add stem cell peptides to the injection to boost fat cell survival after it’s transferred.

Fat transfer

For the final step, we inject the fat into the targeted area. You receive multiple injections containing small amounts of fat. That allows us to carefully restore or rebuild the area, inserting the fat to create aesthetic results you will love.

One thing to know about the fat transfer is that the amount of fat injected is slightly more than your desired results. Some of the fat cells will die after they’re injected. Your fat transfer offsets that expected loss, so the end result matches your expectations.
